about the studio

Cut & Sew Studio was established in December of 2007.   After seeing the growing number of people wanting to learn how to sew, and with the lack of spaces from which to learn in Pittsburgh, the idea for the Studio came about.  Here, I could merge my love of sewing with my desire to teach.   I wanted to create a fun, social sewing environment where students can take a class, work on independent projects while meeting with others who are passionate about sewing as well as those who are just beginning to learn. All the tools are provided at the studio. So whether you are an experienced or a newbie, there is no need to transport a machine or supplies.  At Cut & Sew you will find the space and all the necessary equipment to get your project done.

Cut & Sew Studio first began in a second floor studio space located in East Liberty.  In May 2013 the studio moved to a new store front location in the neighborhood of Highland Park, and in the heart of it’s business district, on Bryant Street.  After outgrowing the space, Cut & Sew made a final move in 2016 to 1747 Chislett Street in Morningside in order to expand and offer a larger space for students to work and to accommodate growing classes.  This move also allowed for a collaboration to form with Firecracker Fabrics!  If you would like to come by and see the studio and you are not signed up for a class, please contact us to schedule an appointment.  You may also stop by during Firecracker’s regular business hours which are M, T, W 10-5; Thurs 12-8; Fri & Sat 10-6; Sun 11-5.  However, if you would like to speak with the owner (and instructor) Catherine you will need to schedule an appointment during non-class times.
