Level: Intermediate or Advanced
For students entering 4th -12th
Instructor: Sophie Hood
Camp: Mon-Fri 9am-12pm
If you have watched the designers on Project Runway create their styles by pinning fabric directly to the dress form and have wondered how do they do that….then this is the camp for you!
Please note that this camp does not involve sewing!
In this class students will learn the basics of draping, a process of positioning, pinning and marking fabric on a dress form to develop a garment’s structure directly on the dress form. In draping, designers follow a sketch or design concept and play with the way a fabric falls on the form to conceptualize and create a design. This is an alternative method (to flat pattern) to begin the apparel design process, but is also used along with flat pattern techniques to create the sewn garment
Students will learn skills including taping the form and using style lines, prepping muslin, blocking fabric and understanding fabric grain and how it affects drape. Students will have the opportunity to drape several basic bodice and skirt styles and begin to explore the world of draping! We will end with a full garment drape which will be kept on display for a few weeks at Cut and Sew Studio!
Dress forms will be provided for use in this class (these will not necessarily be to your size as they are adult size forms - However, if you have a dress form you would like to bring to use in the camp please let us know!
All supplies are included for this camp.
Cost: $235 (no supplies needed)
