This class is 2 sessions long, each 3 hours for a total class time of 6 hours
Instructor: Mark Drummond
Please note that the “Home Decor – Pillow” class is a prerequisite for this class! If you feel you have enough prior experience to take this class without having taken the pillow class please contact me to discuss. In this class you will further develop your understanding of fabric grain and pillow making construction while making a box cushion such as that used for a dog bed, couch cushion, window seat or chair cushion. Your cushion will be complete with zipper closure, and corded welts along all edges. You will learn how to wrap your foam insert with batting for a professionally made cushion. Please note that although you may choose your cushion size, the maximum size you can do is 18″ x 36″. If your ultimate goal is to make a larger cushion , this can be used as practice. You could also make this as a cushion for a chair and even add ties to the back. The foam provided for this class will be 2″ thickness.
2″ deep, high density professional foam for insert (cut to size in class)
Cording for top and bottom edges of cushion
Supplies you Need to Bring:
Approximately 2 yards of fabric (this is the max amount you would need for fabric and welts if you are doing an 18″ x 36″ in cushion) – please note that fabric must be 54″ wide if you are doing a large cushion. If you are doing a smaller cushion, 42-45″ wide fabric is ok. No silk or sheer fabric. Fabric should be a home decor fabric (nothing extremely thick/stiff) or can be cotton quilting fabric or canvas if you want a less expensive option to the home decor fabrics or if your end use does not require using a heavier home decor fabric.
Matching all-purpose polyester thread
