This class is 2 sessions long, each 2.5 hours for a total class time of 5 hours
Instructor: Mark Drummond

Looking to learn how to make professional throw pillows for your home or as gifts?  Then this is the class for you!  In this class you will learn how to make a professional pillow insert, and make a pillow cover complete with cording and self covered button(s).   The class will cover understanding fabric grain for properly cutting your fabric and cording fabric and how to make fabric covered bias piping as well as hand sewing techniques.  You will be able to design and make one pillow no greater than 20″ x 20″.  Pillow can be square or rectangular.  Covered buttons will be professionally made for you – however instructor will discuss the use of at home kits for making covered buttons which you may also try!  With the basics learned in this class you can continue to make window seat cushions, dog bed pillows and more!  Please note that this class is a prerequisite for taking the more advanced home decor classes.

Supplies Included in cost of class:
Poly-Fill and Batting for making pillow insert
Covered button parts
Special upholstery thread for sewing on buttons
Tools needed for project will be provided for use during the class

Supplies you must bring to class:
Enough fabric to make your pillow – suggested to use a heavier home decor weight fabric (about 3/4 yard should be enough if the fabric is wide)
about 1/2 yard of extra fabric for cording (in contrast or same fabric)
Regular all-purpose polyester machine sewing thread (no heavy threads necessary)

This is a beginner level class but the concepts learned in this class will be necessary to take students to a higher level of home decor sewing in future upholstery sewing classes.  Prior sewing and cutting experience is necessary for this class, including understanding how to thread the sewing machine and sew even seam allowance.
