Patternmaking – Level I

March 30, 2016 @ 6:30 pm - 9:00 pm

|Recurring Event (See all)
Every week until March 30, 2016

Class is 5 sessions total, each 2.5 hours long. Total 12.5 hours of class time.

In the Patternmaking – Level I class students will focus on the skirt pattern.  Using commercial sloper patterns you will create a muslin fit sample to be fit during the first class.  I will show you how to perfect the fit to your body so that the pattern can be used as a building block to create new designs.  From the basic sloper pattern I will show you how to create several new skirt patterns, each fit to your body, such as an A-line skirt, a flared skirt, a gored skirt etc.  You will also learn about making a facing pattern and a lining pattern, how to properly add seam allowance and notches.  We will not be sewing in this class!  Please note that this class is a prerequisite for the Patternmaking Level II class with focus on the bodice!  Patternmaking – Level I will teach you fundamental patternmaking techniques you can use for future designs, exercises and to help you manipulate store bought patterns as well.  You will gain a greater understanding of patterns in general, even those you buy from the store!
