Men’s or Women’s Colette Button-Down Shirt

Learn to make this classic, slightly retro shirt with a more modern cut from Colette as part of the “Walden” line of men’s patterns.  This pattern although a men’s shirt pattern can easily be adjusted for a woman’s fit, or make it just as it is -   Sizes range from XS-2XL.  Pattern is available at the Loom shop right in Morningside!  We will be making version 2 with short sleeves.

In this class you will learn all the basics of shirt-making…including making and setting a collar, sleeves and pockets, buttons and button-holes.    Such an excellent opportunity to learn so many skills as you are walked through the process step-by-step!

Class is 5 sessions total.  Each class is 3 hours long for a total of 15 hours.  Please note that there is no class 10/31 Halloween!

Supplies Needed:

Negroni pattern by Colette
You can purchase this pattern right at the Loom shop in Morningside!
We will be making Version 2  (Short Sleeve)  you need:
- the main fabric (cotton lawn, voile, shirtings, linen, flannel) (depending on size you need 3-4 yards of fabric)
-lightweight fusible interfacing (check quantity as per size)
-one larger spool of all-purpose thread
-one 1/4″ button
- seven 1/2″ buttons (it wouldn’t hurt to have a couple extra buttons just in case!)
If you would like, you are welcome to get two types of fabrics — one for most of the shirt and one for facings — a contrast type fabric for those kinds of things.  If you go this route, still get 3 to 4 yards of the main fabric (depending on size) and about a yard of a contrast. There will be extra, but it will keep things from being really tight.
Also recommended that you stay in the natural fiber zone for fabrics– it’s just easier to work with! If anyone is going a little thicker — like a flannel or lightweight wool — I would recommend erring on the larger size to compensate for thickness.   Also, we are not recommending plaid for this one since that will add a lot of complexity and time to be trying to deal with matching the plaid.  So unless you feel you’re a more advanced level, stick with a print you won’t have to match or a solid!
