Cassiopee Dress – Virtual

In this virtual class learn to make the Cassiopée – an easy to make, easy to wear dress by I AM patterns. So many variations you can make with this simple style, it’s the perfect relaxed dress to wear on a hot summer day, or layered over leggings in the fall. Learn basic pattern reading skills and garment dress making skills including how to properly sew a neckline facing. This dress can be made in 3/4 or short sleeve versions.

Pre-Requisites

Beginner or Intermediate level.

Must know how to thread and operate the sewing machine at home. Should have some prior experience using a pattern as you will need to cut pattern and fabric out in advance of class. Experience can be minimal. If you don’t have much experience and want to take the class you can, just ask in advance to make sure you are cutting everything correctly if you need help :)

More advanced sewists may finish early and have time to start a second one or bring other questions to class. Class time will allow the more beginner sewist enough time to work on the dress in class-time. So don’t feel intimidated if this is a beginner project for you!

Prior to class you will want to piece together if necessary and cut out pattern and fabric so you are ready to sew at the first session. Make sure to prewash fabric to preshrink. Then you will want your fabric, interfacing and thread as required by the pattern. Fabric should be cut before class in your size as determined by your body measurements. So if you have questions about your size let me know!

Pattern is oversized, so if you are in-between sizes or want a less boxy and slightly slimmer fit we suggest sizing down on this one!

Dress can be made in just about any woven fabric, soft quilting cottons, lawn, voile, chambray, rayon or other similar options.

You should be comfortable threading and operating your own machine, and have access to an ipad or laptop to meet via zoom. A phone works too, just not as big a screen.

You will also want basic sewing tools: scissors, seam ripper, pins or clips , tape measure or ruler etc!
