What better way to show off your sewing skills than wearing your creations! In this intermediate-level camp students will have the opportunity to design a color-blocked dress using a basic shift style dress as a template. Students will stitch up their one-of-a-kind unique dress and make a little zippy pouch to match with the scraps leftover!
Please note that this camp requires that students shop after the first session of camp for their fabric supplies once yardage requirements are determined.
Students will also have an opportunity to present their looks in a small fashion show in the fall at Cut & Sew Studio for their family and friends.
Instructor: Catherine Batcho or Maeve Blessing
In this camp, students will be making a color-blocked dress from a design they create. We will start with either the 100 Acts of Sewing dress no. 1 pattern for students who are in more of an adult size range. Or we will use the Mini Eucalypt dress from Megan Nielsen Patterns for younger and smaller sized students. The pattern is already included in the cost of the camp!
Day 1 of camp, students will be working on their design and making the pattern for the dress. The instructors will assist the students in determining yardage requirements for the design. Students will then need to shop after class for the yardage needed to make the dress. If you have yardage leftover from an old project, this is a great way to incorporate it into a new design and use it up! Feel free to bring in any yardage that you have and would like use so that we can determine where it will fit into your child’s design and see what else they will need in addition. Fabric must be woven (not stretch, no knits, fleece, no shear fabric) and preferably not slippery.
- yardage as calculated in class
- 2 spools of all-purpose thread
- 1 package of 1/2″ wide single fold-bias tape
- one 7″ (or longer is okay) regular closed bottom (preferably non-metal unless student has prior zipper sewing experience and zipper must be correct length) zipper for a zipper pouch to match
