Piecing Techniques – a level II quilting class


Take your quilting skills to the next level in this Piecing Techniques class.  In each class students will complete 3 different quilt blocks so that they have 9 finished blocks by the end of the course – the following techniques will be covered: Strip-piecing a 9-patch block, Stitch and flip triangles, Log Cabin block, Half-square triangles, Flying Geese, Isosceles triangles, Foundation paper piecing, hexagons by machine, and y-seams.

Recommended Skill Level – Advanced Beginner to Intermediate
*you should have basic quilting experience to take this class, however it is not a requirement – students will make 9 quilt blocks in this class but we will not go over how to finish into a final quilt – instructions will be provided to do this at home – if you do not have basic quilting experience take the Fundamentals of quilting class starting Oct 3rd to learn the basics of putting a quilt together.  If you have taken Nikki’s Fundamentals of quilting class or have some basic quilting experience you can definitely take the class – any questions just ask!

Supply List:

Sewing machine with 1/4″ foot (we have this at studio if you are using studio machines)
White or cream cotton thread, 40 or 50 wt
Rotary cutter (45mm or if you have one already bring what you have!)
Quilting rulers (suggested sizes: 6 1/2″ x 24 1/2″ and 6 1/2″ square – please bring with you any quilting rulers that you have.  You may purchase rulers if you would like to have some of your own if you do not have them – size is a suggested size, you may get something slightly different, but something close in size is good.  If you do not bring rulers with you to class we can provide one for you to borrow during class, please just let us know you will not have rulers!)
1/2 yard each of 4 coordinating fabrics (solid or small print)
1 yard coordinating solid
Optional: 1 1/2 yard coordinating fabric to use as sashing, borders, and binding if you wish to create a 51″ square quilt from the blocks made in class. Written finishing instructions will be given at the end of the last class.
