Be sure to stop by Firecracker Fabrics online or in-person – our beautiful and local fabric partner shop, located right on the opposite street corner from Cut & Sew Studio!
You may shop in person at Firecracker, be sure to check their website or social media for hours.
Firecracker Fabrics also offers online shopping for your convenience, you may select in-store pickup and then pick up your supplies in person at the store. Please note that there is no longer the option to pickup from your instructor at cut & sew studio since the fabric shop is no longer inside cut & sew studio’s space. Be sure to order AT LEAST 3 days in advance of the class. Please check Firecracker’s website or social media for any store hour updates!
As another option for apparel fabrics in Pittsburgh, please check out Loom located in Etna.

Sewing pattern of your choice, please choose something appropriate for your skill level and for what you’d like to learn! If you feel very beginner and want a very simple starting point the 100 Acts of Sewing patterns are one great suggestion, but Firecracker can help you with finding something suitable if you need help. You are also welcome to email me your ideas.
Please also make sure the pattern you purchase comes in your size, some patterns although available in many sizes, will be divided in to different envelopes (ones with a smaller size set and ones with a larger size set), and make sure to check your size recommendation based on your body measurements. Not all sizes are “modern” and sometimes you will find that if you are normally a 4, you are really a 12 in patterns! So don’t be alarmed at the number…just go with what the body measurements say. And feel free to email me with any questions!
If you decide to get a digital pattern and are confused by the process please reach out to me.
You will also want to bring the notions, fabric and any supplies suggested by the pattern.
You will need to bring thread for your project. Sometimes 1 spool is enough, and sometimes 2 are needed depending on spool size, project size and types of stitches used.
Also, since fabric may shrink in the wash, it is a good idea to prewash/dry your fabric in the same way you intend to care for the garment so that any possible shrinkage can happen before you make the item!
*Please note you do not have to make clothing – bags and accessories are fine too…anything that uses a pattern!
