Design and Make a Color-Blocked Dress Camp – Full
What better way to show off your sewing skills than wearing your creations! In this intermediate-level camp students will have the opportunity to design a color-blocked dress using a basic shift style dress as a template. Students will stitch up their one-of-a-kind unique dress and make a little zippy pouch to match with the scraps leftover!
Level/Age Requirements: Students must have at least taken the Intro to Sewing camp or series of classes or other similar experiences. Recommended for students entering grades 2 – 9 (grade 1 students may be eligible with permission from the studio).
Supplies needed:
- Fabric – Most woven (non-stretch) fabric is fine. Denim light to mid weight, linen and blends, cotton quilting. No rayon, no knits. Bring at least 3 cuts of fabric – but you may bring more as well!
Purchase or bring from at-home supply the following: - 1 yard of a fabric A
- 1 yard of a fabric B
- and ½ yard of a fabric C (for shorter students I would get ¾ yard of A and B, and still ½ yard of C
- 2 small spools or one large spool of all-purpose thread
- one 7″ (or longer is okay) regular closed bottom (preferably non-metal unless student has prior zipper sewing experience and zipper must be correct length) zipper for a zipper pouch to match
This is a great camp to use up larger scraps from home that you love from prior projects!
