All About Pets Sewing Camp

For the camper who loves their pet more than anything else, this is the camp for you!  In this camp we will make several items for your favorite fury friend at home such as a bolster pillow pet bed, a paw pillow and lots of fun pet toys. There will be several optional projects so students can choose the project most suited to their likes (projects are geared towards a dog or cat).  For students who have prior experience entering grades 1st-8th.

Pre-Requisites

Beginner Friendly (but not for New sewists – students who are totally new need to take the Intro to Sewing camp first)

This is open to all campers entering grades 1-8th who have prior experience.

Supplies

For all projects 1 large spool or 2 small spools of all-purpose thread will be good for the week.

Pet Bed Normal Size
– interior finishes 21″  x 28″ (as in picture and sample)
– see further down if you need a larger size

1 yard for interior pillow – quilting cotton, flannel or sweatshirt fleece medium weight
2.5 yards for exterior /bolster and base
1 package of double bias tape (can be narrow or wide)
Two 20oz bags of poly fill
1 yard of fusible fleece

For a large size pet bed:
finishes 24″ x 36″ for the pillow insert

2.5 yards for bolster and base
3 bags of stuffing, each about 20oz

Students will also make a few smaller projects, either toys, a small stuffed animal or accessories for their pet.  1-3 projects depending on students speed.  You do not need to get anything additional for this if you do not want to we can use leftover scraps and stuffing. But if you would like to get new fabric or make some of the particular projects that need hardware see below:

1 or 2 fat quarters -OR -personal scraps or may use studio scraps (students will have scraps left over from pet bed to use)
If you would like to make a poop bag holder you will also need a swivel hook/or clasp / lobster clasp – 1/2″
If you would like to make a scrappy leash (we only suggest for smaller pets for durability and strength) –
you will need a swivel hook in 1/2″ or 3/4″ (again we do not suggest for very large dog leashes)
