Sketchbook Jacket with Rebekah Joy of Flux Bene
In this class you will use the FLUX BENE Sketchbook Jacket DIY Guide & Pattern Pieces to upcycle a second hand button up shirt into a cropped jacket with large pockets, pieced appliqué on the back and bracelet length sleeves. The lined pockets have both side & top entry points and the bottom & sleeve hems are finished with handmade hem tape.
There are also options to add or remove volume from your garment to add visual interest & tailor it to your desired fit


In this class you will learn/ practice:
- Considerations for upcycling vs. sewing from scratch
- Intermediate alterations
- Combining different fabrics together for visual interest
- Creating lined patch pockets
- Making straight grain hem tape
- Making a pieced appliqué
Teacher Bio
Rebekah Joy is a full time textile artist living & working on the North Side of Pittsburgh. Since 2017 Rebekah has been focused on Flux Bene, a line of minimal waste gender neutral garments that she produces with the help of a few talented friends. Rebekah has set the goal of facilitating the reuse of 10,000 garments. This class is beginner friendly. It is not for the newbie sewist who has never sewn before, so you must have at least taken the Intro to Sewing class or have similar beginner level experience.
You will need to purchase a digital pattern for the class which you will print at home and tape together PRIOR to the first class! If you have questions about this please contact the studio.
