Bag Making Techniques

So many amazing bag patterns out there, you choose one that suits your needs and we will guide you through the process of construction. More beginner level students may choose a simpler bag and for the more advanced or adventurous student choose a pattern that will challenge you! Learn zipper installations, strap making, attaching hardware and using interfacings. And if you finish early, you can even get started on a 2nd bag!

Supplies

You will need to purchase the pattern, fabric and notions for a bag pattern of your choice. Here are a few of our favorites we suggest. If you have another you’d love to do just let us know! And if you are unsure which one is best for your skill level feel free to ask.

firefly tote – Great beginner friendly tote
sandhill sling – Intermediate to advanced
compass bag – Intermediate to advanced
redwood tote – Intermediate to advanced

– Clover Wonder Clips (optional, but so helpful!) – there are some available at studio as well. And they do sell them at Firecracker Fabrics.
– If you have a rotary cutter, quilting rulers, and cutting mat, please bring them to the first session! Please let me know if you do not have these supplies at home already! You are not required to cut with a rotary cutter and ruler, but it is a super helpful skill to learn. These tools are also sold at Firecracker.
